Instructor worked 45 years for Hapag-Lloyd,
15 years as Director and Vice President. His
responsibilities encompassed Dangerous Goods, M&R Claims, Terminal
Contracts and Quality, including ISO Certifications.
Hans Trey founded Hapag-Lloyd's Dangerous
Goods Department, the first dangerous goods department of any European
steamship line, which rapidly developed into a world-wide acting group of
highly specialized experts. During his DG tenure, he was also an official
member of the German delegation to the International Maritime Organization
in London, developing the IMDG Code into containerization. Hans served as
Navigation Officer, Training Officer, Cargo Officer, Chief Officer and became
Master at 32 years of age and was employed on all vessel types and
trades of the line.
Aside from heading the departments
mentioned above, Hans was responsible for developing and introducing the
Hazardous Materials Training Program for Hapag-Lloyd Hazmat employees. He
regularly trained, together with his Hazmat Team about 400 employees and
agents in the US, Canada, South America and the Caribbean Islands. Since
working with VOHMA, Capt. Trey continues to bring professional
dangerous
goods training to the maritime industry in Asia and throughout the world.
