Throughout his career in the transportation safety field, he has worked with legislative and regulatory staffs at both the state and federal level to draft, introduce, support and implement reasonable and prudent controls within the transportation industry. He has developed and presented written and oral testimony on hazardous materials and transportation safety in both Houses of the U.S. Congress. He has written several books on the guiding principals of hazardous materials and dangerous goods transportation and participates in the IMO Dangerous Goods Subcommittee and the UN Committee of Experts on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods. In addition to hundreds of industry seminars, Mr. Currie has taught the principles of hazardous materials transportation management at seminars and undergraduate and graduate degree programs at US universities. Capt. Hans Trey Hans Trey founded Hapag-Lloyd's Dangerous Goods Department, the first dangerous goods department of any European steamship line, which rapidly developed into a world-wide acting group of highly specialized experts. During his DG tenure, he was also an official member of the German delegation to the International Maritime Organization in London, developing the IMDG Code into containerization. Hans served as Navigation Officer, Training Officer, Cargo Officer, Chief Officer and became Master at 32 years of age and was employed on all vessel types and trades of the line. Aside from heading the departments mentioned above, Hans was responsible for developing and introducing the Hazardous Materials Training Program for Hapag-Lloyd Hazmat employees. He regularly trained, together with his Hazmat Team about 400 employees and agents in the US, Canada, South America and the Caribbean Islands. Since working with VOHMA, Capt. Trey continues to bring professional dangerous goods training to the maritime industry in Asia and throughout the world.
